Black leaders unhappy about Delta Air Lines’ diversity

Top Atlanta civil rights leaders are voicing concern about Delta Air Lines Inc.’s commitment to diversity — be it in the number of executives, directors, suppliers, pilots or the overall workforce.

For the past several months, civil rights leaders have been meeting with the top executives of Delta — Richard Anderson, its CEO; Steve Gorman, the chief operating officer; and Michael Campbell, executive vice president of human resources and labor relations — to discuss their concerns.

Delta officials say increasing diversity within its ranks and in procurement is one of its CEO’s top priorities given the company’s status as a global airline. Nearly half of all new executives hired from outside Delta since Anderson took over are women and minorities, officials said, and Delta also pointed to deeds in the community, including its recent $1 million scholarship endowment at Morehouse College.

The African-American leaders meeting with Delta include the Rev. Joseph Lowery, head of the Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda; the Rev. James Milner, senior pastor of the Chapel of Christian Love Baptist Church; and Joe Beasley, president of the African Ascension and human resources director at Antioch Baptist Church North.

Because of the merger with Northwest the technology department is about to lose 500 hundred jobs, and since this is obviously a Northwest take over most of those are going to be Delta Employees, especially the African American Eployees. Northwest culture is much worst than Delta in reguard to diversity in the work place. Everyone should network on who's let go or force to take the package and if the minorities lose a dispoportionate number of jobs, then we should file a class action suit.

Thanks to Mr. Beasley, Rev. Lowery and the entire Georgia Coalition for the Peoples Agenda for being and avocate for civil rights. I'm happy to see that Delta is already on your radar. The problem that's going on in the technology department is the same problems that being going on since day one of the merger. Which is more and more of Northwest Management and more and more minorities losing there white collar jobs. the number one way that they trying to do this in the technology department is by giving african americans low rankings on their year ends evalutions which makes them vunerable for being laid off.

Several years ago African American women at Delta had to threating a law suit about similar tactics thats going on today, only then, they were ranking minories low on their evaluations to keep them from getting the top level of bonus money as well as making it difficult for them to get promotions, but now they are ranking us low and sabatoging our work, and doing anything they can do to make us vunerable to being laid off.

I'm an employee in the technology department who is also not happy with my year-end performance review it is obvious that their is a subplot here because it is a total reversal of my mid-term review. Some employees just recieved their reviews last week and if they want to take the severance package it must be turn in by monday February 1st. which gives them less than two weeks to make a decision about their furture. Plus, if they take the severance package they have to sign a waiver stating that they want come back an sue the company. The deadline for this package really needs to be extended. Also, why can't Delta allow the people who don't take the package and is later involuntary let go take other available jobs in other departments? their are plenty of open jobs posted on the e-bid.
