Africans has endured over 500 years of separation and alienation due in large measure based on brute force by western nations. Slavery and Colonization decimated the African Continent and reduced Africans living in the diaspora to subhuman. While slave labor built the great cities of the United States, Brazil and other nations, and filled the "coffers" of the cities of Europe, Africans, across the globe, are still reeling from this "crime against all humanity."
Various remedies are being discussed to redress this imbalance in the human condition, lest we all perish, some immediate steps are demanded!
. improved methods of communicating are needed! Use of native tongues were forbidden during slavery. Stripped of our culture, we were reduced to empty vessels! Hence, we find ourselves, for the most part, on the English Plantation in the United States, the Portuguese Plantation in Brazil, the Spanish Plantation in Columbia, (English Plantation in the United Kingdom, French Plantation in France, Portuguese Plantation in Portugal, etc.
. We did not perish! We enter the 21st Century over 200 million strong in the African diaspora ready to join forces with the 800 millions still living in the Mother Land!!!
. We must now unify for the good of unborn African babies across the globe. 500 years of unmerited suffering brings "moral authority!"
. This "moral authority" must not only rescue Africans but the whole of the Human Family.
ECONOMIC EQUALITY:
"Economic equality is the master key to non-violent independence. Working for economic equality means aboloshing the eternal conflict between capital and labor. It means the levelling down of the few rich in whose hands is concentrated the bulk of the nation's (world's) wealth on the one hand and the levelling up of the semi-starved naked millions on the other. A non-violent system of government is clearly an impossibility, so long as the wide gulf between the rich and the hungry millions persists."
Mahatma Gandhi
Beyond Vietnam, April 4, 1967
"Every nation must now develop an overriding loyalty to mankind as a whole in order to preserve the best in their individual societies. This call for a world-wide fellowship thats lifts neighborly concerns beyond one's tribe, race, class and the nation is in reality a call for an all-embracing and unconditional love for all ..."
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Our world is divided and conflict-torn, socially and ecologically unsustainable. We cannot remain as we are, nor can we go back to the conditions of the past. We can only move forward, but not on the same path we have been following til now. We need to find a new direction for our individual and collective future in individual and collective interest. Finding a new path is a major challenge, but it can be met.
Shishir Srivastava, Organizing Secretary, Global Symposium, Lucknow, India Dec. 2007
The task of levelling up and down must begin but it must be done in the spirit of neighborly concerns which lift up above tribe, race and class. It must be done with boldness and clarity! If institutions are complicit in past enequities they must be taken to task!
The questions regarding money and labor must be tackled! Multi-national corporations are more powerful than nations and must be held to account in the marketplace of the world! In light of the above, we hope to stimulate debate from all spectrums of thought toward the end of creating greater equity in our world.
